  • 1.  Editing a Google Doc

    Posted 6 hours ago

I've seen various threads in editing groups about editing in Word and Google Docs and going back and forth between them. I've never worked in Google Docs before, so I don't know what to watch for and what problems will come up. I have a number of questions and since I need to start this possibly today, would be grateful if I can get some fast answers.

I've been asked to edit a short Google Doc consisting of 12 short texts on the topic of street fashion in Japan, written by a travel guide who I think is planning to self-publish. It's only 2, 600 words. I haven't yet asked the author what she's going to do with it after the editing, but she's asked me to also fix spacing. I'm not sure if she means simply what we call cleaning up double spaces, extra line breaks, etc., or more than that.

    1. If I paste the doc into Word and edit it there, when I paste it back into the Google Doc, will my t/c carry over and will spacing remain the same?
    2. Should I just try to edit the Google Doc? Is it sort of intuitive? Does it have some t/c feature?
    3. What could go wrong if I choose option no. 1?
    4. Should I just edit it in Word and let the client and whoever is going to help her publish handle discrepancies?
    5. What does the client need to do after I return the document to her -- e.g., have someone format it for her (assuming she is going to self-publish)?

    Many thanks.
