Bio

I'm the founder of cocostudio, a collaborative practice in editing, coaching, and craft. My scenic career journey includes stops as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, qualitative researcher, and traditionally published author. Across K–20, government, and corporate sectors, these experiences give me a holistic view of both content development and the editorial process.

☀️ How I Can Help

  • Nonfiction: Big Idea, Self-Help & Prescriptive – Developmental editing and manuscript assessments to help subject-matter experts (SMEs) turn complex ideas into content that reaches a wider audience.
  • Fiction: Middle Grade (MG) & Young Adult (YA) – Developmental editing and manuscript assessments for contemporary or grounded fantasy.
  • Book Coaching – Structural and conceptual guidance for writers working from notes, chapter maps, or early drafts, helping build, define, or shape a book's blueprint before or during the writing process.
  • Personal Coaching – I help academics, thought leaders, and creatives work through what's standing between them and their most important work.

☀️ Award-Winning Author

My three middle grade novels (HarperCollins) have earned starred reviews, Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection, a Japan Sakura Medal nomination, and appear on multiple state award lists across the country.

☀️ Credentials

  • Education – Ph.D., Learning, Design & Technology. Graduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Qualitative Research. Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership. B.S., Journalism. Poynter ACES Certificate in Editing.
  • Coaching & Assessment Certifications – Professional Certified Coach (PCC), International Coaching Federation. MBTI & FIRO-B. Hogan Assessments.

☀️ About Me

I'm a sometimes runner, walker, and salsa dancer. I'm allergic to cats, but I adore them. I also love the darkness before the dawn, sunshine filtering through a mature canopy, and stargazing on clear nights. As a Black developmental editor and book coach, I'm happy to work with writers from every background, and especially love supporting underrepresented voices.
