Past Chapter Events

On October 28, EFA LA chapter members got into the spirit of the season, meeting with the Creatives' Cafe for a gathering in the flesh—upstairs at the Burbank IKEA restaurant. There were Swedish meatballs and cookies, many introductions, and lots of networking. With all these high octane minds at work, great ideas were generated for 2026. Stay tuned for future meeting announcements! On October 22, EFA LA chapter members Shan Emanuelli, Christine Steele, Lynn Varon, and Karen Yin enjoyed a showing of Rebel with a Clause, a documentary in which grammar expert and author Ellen Jovin travels all 50 American states with her Grammar Table, answering questions and sparking conversations around language. See the list of upcoming dates and locations here.

On September 11, members of all the California chapters enjoyed a presentation about the tax laws of our state as they apply to freelance editors. Topics included worker classification, the ABC test, and exceptions for editors. Our speaker was Marie-France Li, a payroll tax specialist with the Employment Development Department, Tax Branch, Field Audit and Compliance Division

On June 5, Amy J. Schneider presented Conscious Language and Copyediting Fiction. The owner of Featherschnieder Editorial Services, Amy J. Schnieider is the author of The Chicago Guide to Copyediting Fiction.
