Emily Dahl

Developmental Editor

Bio

As a developmental editor for fantasy and romance fiction, I give indie and querying authors big-picture feedback to help their stories reach the next level before they self-publish or submit to literary agents.

Sharing your book with an editor takes courage. I aim to make the process a collaboration by providing professional, actionable feedback that leaves you clear-eyed and ready to revise.

I offer two core services: a full Developmental Edit (in-depth, two-pass feedback with an editorial letter, in-line comments, and a book map) and a Manuscript Evaluation (a higher-level read that flags the storytelling elements most in need of attention). I also offer book blurb writing as an add-on, drawing on a decade-plus marketing background to help self-publishing authors position their books for readers.

I specialize in fantasy and romance in all their forms: cozy fantasy, romantasy, high fantasy, low fantasy, dark fantasy, paranormal, monster romance, contemporary romance, LGBTQ+, YA and new adult. I pay close attention to worldbuilding, magic systems, and romantic tension alongside craft fundamentals like plot, pacing, and characterization.

I'm first-time author friendly.
