Ruth Terry

Freelance Social Impact Writer and Editor

Bio

Hello! I'm a multi-award-winning journalist and editor living in Istanbul, Turkey, with a home base in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Prior to freelance writing, I worked in nonprofit development and communications. Since then, I've written for top outlets, such as Al Jazeera, National Geographic, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Time. I also write and edit content for nonprofits, agencies, and brands. After more than a decade as a freelance writer, I realized that I rarely had the opportunity to work with editors who look like me — and I wanted to help change that for other writers by pivoting to editing. I recently completed the University of Washington's Certificate in Editing program, which built my skills in developmental, structural, and line editing. I look forward to providing social impact organizations and historically marginalized authors with the editing support they need to make their writing shine!
