Are you a prose editor who loves comics? Do you want to be able to expand your work into comics as well? It may seem overwhelming at first, but learning the basics will help you communicate confidently about the comics you read.

Comics has a specialized vocabulary unique to the art form, and when an editor doesn't know the right words to use, it can be difficult for comics writers and artists to understand their feedback. If you've got great ideas about how a cartoonist can improve their work, it's important to be comfortable with the concepts and terms used in the industry so you can get those ideas across.

In this one-hour webinar, we’ll start with the building blocks of comics. Never heard of a grawlix? Not sure what the difference is between a comic and a cartoon? That’s what we’re here for! Together, we’ll start with the simplest comics vocabulary and work our way up to more specialized terms. Our goal is that by the end of the hour, you’ll be expressing your love of comics using industry-standard lingo, ready to connect with other comics pros!

Tea Fougner (she/they) is a seasoned comics editor who has worked as a developmental and story editor in a variety of genres, from humor (Popeye, Rhymes With Orange) to action-adventure (The Phantom, Mark Trail), science fiction and fantasy (Flash Gordon), and drama and romance (Mary Worth). With over fifteen years of professional comics work under her belt and projects featured in publications like The Washington Post, The New York Times, and Business Insider, she speaks comics as if it were her native language.
