Most editors are familiar with Word’s Track Changes feature, but that’s only one of many editing platforms. There are also “markup languages,” such as LaTeX and HTML, which are focused a little more on building formats. These are often used in STEM-related disciplines; they function to format a document, display equations, and make a document easier to organize and read.
In October, our Coffee Chat will focus on markup languages. Whether you’re just curious, fairly new to markup languages, or super experienced and ready to share your knowledge, join us to discuss the issues and advantages of markup languages, which might include discussions on the following: -Tools that can be used to make editing easier -Helping authors navigate the format and use markup to write more clearly -Constructing bibliographies and reference lists -Using markup to aid assistive technologies -The role of markup in adding formatting and clarity to a document
This session will be hosted by Carla Morris and Candice Gullett.
