Important Information About Our Recorded Webinars

After you place your order, your course will be added to your personal course library on our education site. That site has different login information from the main EFA site. Please check your email for information on how to access the course.

Webinar recordings may not be downloaded, and access ends five years after the recording date. Please check the webinar air date at the bottom of this listing to know how long you will have access to the recording.

Want to add beta reading to your list of services but unsure where to start? Stumped by how to differentiate between beta reading and developmental editing in terms of pricing and scope? Heck, unsure exactly what beta reading entails? Beta reading has traditionally been a free service exchanged within writing groups, but it has gained traction as a professional service in the last few years—one that requires a different approach than editing. In this intro-level webinar, I'll walk you through the basics of beta reading, how it differs from editing, and deciding if it's something you want to offer. At the end of the 60 minutes, you'll have the tools to structure your beta reading service, including pricing, scope, and setting expectations (both for yourself and for clients).

Since 2012, Mary DeSantis (she/her) has worn several hats in the book world—including writer, editor, and blogger. She holds an MFA in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University and has been her own editorial boss since 2019. She has led writing groups, taught one-off lectures, and is currently an instructor with Savvy Authors. When she isn't working, she can be found practicing yoga and making friends with the oven.

This webinar originally aired on August 26, 2021.
