Publishing can be mysterious. What’s the right path for you and your project? Should you self-publish or look for an agent and a publisher? What are the steps of publishing a book? It’s hard enough to write a book; if you’d like help figuring out the other parts of the process, I’d love to work with you to help you understand and explore your options.
I’m Stephanie Argy. I’m a freelance editor and publishing consultant based in Paris France, and I help authors and small presses bring books into the world. My specialty is shepherding books through all the stages of editing, design, and production, but I also offer à la carte services, including developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading. Although my focus has been on nonfiction, especially books on creativity and storytelling, I'm eager to work with authors working in mystery and historical fiction. (And if the two are combined, even better!)
I serve on the EFA Board of Directors and Education Committee. I also serve on the board of Sisters in Crime International, and I’m the co-chair of the Sisters in Crime DEIJB Committee and a member of the Sisters in Crime UK/EU chapter, Once Upon a Crime.
I’m deeply passionate about storytelling and creativity and helping people discover and trust their voice. More than anything, my goal is to help writers bring their singular, special projects to life. I’m excited to hear about yours, and look forward to talking with you soon!
"Stephanie used her deep knowledge of publishing and project management to help guide me through the entire process from beginning to end. She made herself available for even the smallest of questions and helped form and shape muddled ideas into clear, cogent paragraphs with expert advice. I felt she was completely invested in the success of whatever she and I were working on together, and her ability to keep me accountable and engaged helped bring the project full circle."
— James Fester, author of The National Park Classroom
"I can’t speak highly enough about Stephanie in her professional capacity as a book editor, and as an enthusiastic supporter of book publishing in general. Stephanie’s reputation is well-known by national-level authors and international-level education leaders. She brings to the table a diverse set of skills and is able to adjust to accommodate writers with varying levels of experience across a wide set of topics. She was an outstanding collaborator who guided me through the entire process by providing professional expertise, creative advice, and technical knowledge to make my book a best-selling publication in the education market."
