Are you intimidated by macros? Are you unsure what macros are but would like to become a more efficient editor? Have you always been curious about macros but never made the time to try them? Demystifying Macros will introduce you to the world of macros.
Macros are mini computer programs that run inside Microsoft Word. They can save you time by performing repetitive tasks and can increase your effectiveness by analyzing a manuscript for consistency issues. During this 90-minute webinar, you'll learn what macros are, how macros differ from programs like PerfectIt, how to install and run macros on your computer, how to determine what macros you need for your projects, and five tips for incorporating macros into your workflow. No programming experience is required.
This presentation centers on a free library of nearly 800 macros designed specifically for editors by Paul Beverly, a technical editor in the UK. The macros work on both PCs and Macs and are suitable for editors of all genres. Attendees will receive a detailed handout of the steps covered in the presentation.
Jennifer Yankopolus (she/her) has been editing in the architecture and design field for 25 years and is an instructor in the University of California, San Diego Copyediting Certificate Program. Since 2020, she has been teaching editors worldwide how to use macros to increase their productivity. Besides teaching the "Word Macros A to Z" course, she regularly leads webinars and workshops around the world to train editors how to edit more efficiently by using macros. To support editors in their ongoing use of macros, she writes the Macro of the Month newsletter, which introduces readers to one new macro each month and provides practical tips.
