This 90-minute introductory webinar is designed for new editors, experienced editors looking for a career change, or anyone curious about medical editing—no prior medical editing knowledge required. It is also suitable for those with a scientific or clinical
background, without editing experience, who are looking to expand their careers into non-clinical or non-research roles. This session is not suitable for experienced medical editors seeking advanced training or continuing education.
This session covers what medical editing is, who can be a medical editor, the essential skills needed to succeed in medical editing, the kinds of work available in medical editing, and helpful resources. By the end of this session, you will have a sense
of the scope of medical editing, whether your skill set fits with industry requirements, and which types of medical editing to try to pursue based on your background. You'll also get a list of valuable resources you can tap into if you are interested
in pursuing medical editing.
Laura J. Arul (she/her) is a family physician, freelance medical writer, and editor specializing in continuing medical education. She obtained her medical degree from McGill University, trained at Queen’s University for her residency, and completed a certificate in Medical Writing and Editing at the University of Chicago. She brings years of experience in medical communications from her clinical career. More recently, she established her freelance business, L.J.A. Medical Communications, to dedicate more time to pursuing her freelance medical writing and editing career.
