September Coffee Hour and DFWCon Volunteers

Posted By Administration, Wednesday, September 3, 2025

September Virtual Editor Coffee Hour

Join us for our monthly chat about editing and entrepreneurship. Bring your questions, stories, and a warm cup of Joe.

We'll meet on Zoom at 1 pm CT on Wednesday, September 10.

Register via our event page to receive the Zoom meeting information and so we'll know how many people to expect.

DFWCon is October 4–5

EFA will host a table at DFWCon again this year! The DFW Writers Conference is the premier, multi-genre writers conference in the Southwest and will take place October 4–5, 2025, in Hurst, Texas. This year’s theme is Your Story Starts Here.

North Texas chapter members who represented the EFA at this conference in prior years reported that many attendees stopped by the table, and that they responded well to learning about the EFA and how it serves both writers and editors. We’re really excited about returning to this event and hope that several chapter members can join us there.

Check the DFWCon website for more information.

How You Can Participate

If you are interested in volunteering to help us staff the EFA table at DFWCon this year, please use this form to sign up for a shift. To give more members an opportunity to participate, we ask that you choose just one shift initially. Note, the schedule as of now is not final yet, so the times on the form may need to be shifted if the event's start and end times are different from last year's.

Not able to be there in person? You can still have a presence at our table by providing us with some of your business cards so we can make them available to attendees looking for a local editor. Contact Angie to get the address to mail your cards to.

Transitioning to New Chapter Coordinators

Transitioning to New Chapter Coordinators

Richelle and Angie Stepping Down

Richelle Braswell and Angie McCauley will step down as co-coordinators for the North Texas chapter in the coming months. We've loved serving our chapter as coordinators and look forward to continuing to be involved members of the chapter. Unfortunately, we no longer have the time capacity to serve as coordinators, as we need to focus more on our businesses.

Our plan is to oversee the full transition to Your Membership (EFA’s new community platform) and ensure we’ve implemented all the new and updated procedures for chapter coordinators before stepping down. We hope to complete that process by the end of September. As we finalize the transition, we will begin training new co-coordinators to take over for us.

Ever thought of becoming a chapter coordinator?

One member has volunteered to step up as a co-coordinator for our chapter, but we are looking for one more person to serve alongside them. Their time as coordinators will begin this fall and continue through at least the end of EFA’s next fiscal year, August 31, 2026. If you are interested in volunteering for this role (or just finding out more about it), please email both Richelle and Angie at hello@richellebraswell.com and angie@angiesediting.com. We’d be happy to discuss it with you.

Below is a list of chapter coordinator responsibilities and incentives:

  • Host monthly coffee hours and quarterly meetings (times and dates can change to fit your needs)
  • Find and schedule speakers for quarterly meetings
  • Add events to chapter page and EFA calendar
  • Send emails about coffee hours, quarterly meetings, and other chapter news
  • Respond to member or group inquiry messages via Your Membership
  • Participate in the Volunteer Leadership: Group Coordinators community page
  • Attend or watch recording of monthly coordinator meetings (15th of each month, but if that falls on the weekend or a holiday, then the following business day)
  • Submit monthly chapter reports
  • Submit annual budget request
  • Volunteer up to ten hours per month
  • Receive a Certificate of Appreciation
  • Receive a special EFA Ambassador badge
  • Receive 50 percent discount of EFA membership
