What's happening in October? Meatballs and a movie!

October 22, 2025
EFA LA Movie Night

Join members of the LA chapter for a much-anticipated showing of Rebel with a Clause in West LA. Grammar expert Ellen Jovin takes her pop-up grammar advice stand on an epic road trip across all 50 states to show that comma fights can bring us closer together in a divided time.

5:30 pm: Socialize over dinner or dessert at the Nickel Mine sports bar, 11363 Santa Monica Blvd., LA

6:30 pm: The Grammar Table, Laemmle Royal theater, 11523 Santa Monica Blvd., West LA
Ellen will be available before the film to shoot the breeze, answer questions, distribute nonmandatory grammar quizzes, sell and sign books

7:30 pm: Rebel with a Clause, $17.50 general admission, purchase in advance

Come early or join us at the theater! There is a short walk between the two venues. Contact Lynn Varon with questions.

What do MEATBALLS and MANUSCRIPTS have in common?

Due to popular demand, we're meeting at the spookily spacious and bright Burbank IKEA. Join us for a ghoulishly fun get together with coffee and conversation. Costumes optional, but you know Christine will be wearing something seasonal!

Chat about what you're working on. Got challenging revisions? Out-of-this world projects? Got a hankering to pick some brains? Find some of the best reserving tables at the upstairs cafeteria.

You'd rather have brunch?

For food/drink, get in line with a tray. The line winds past desserts and salads. Next is the hot meals, then soups, and (sometimes) scones near the registers. Get a bottomless soda cup and try some of their interesting Swedish flavors. IKEA family members always get free hot coffee or tea (it's free to join IKEA family). You can also buy a token for the espresso machine (lattes, etc.).

FREE AND EASY PARKING. Use the entrance on the left (north) side. The restaurant is upstairs. Contact Janet Long or Christine Van Zandt for more information. Go to Event post to RSVP.
