An editor with a highly collaborative approach and an ESL background, I am experienced in persuasive writing, especially personal statements. As a well-rounded nonfiction editor, I enjoyed editing a journal article by an Italian professor because I love helping people turn out coherent, elegant, and factually correct prose. These affinities showed earlier in a grant writing and grant prospect research internship at The HOPE Program, where a commitment to economic justice fired my efforts toward its workforce development programs.
I came to copyediting from a career in tutoring adults in English as a Second Language. I earned a Certificate in TESLA--Teaching English as a Second Language to Adults--at New York City’s Literacy Assistance Center. I freelanced for years in adult ESL tutoring and led a popular, weekly, ESL conversation group. I have completed LinkedIn Learning courses in Word and Adobe Acrobat Reader, EFA webinars in medical-legal report editing, and a proofreading course at the UK’s Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading. I am in the home stretch of the EFA’s beginning course in copyediting.
