August In-person Social and Networking Event
Saturday, August 16, 2025 3:00 pm Fiction Beer Company, 7170 E. Colfax Ave., Denver
All are invited to join us for a summer social get-together at Fiction Beer Company, 7170 E. Colfax Ave., Denver. This in-person event is the perfect opportunity to get to know some of your colleagues in a casual social/networking setting. Come and commiserate about rude clients, share your latest triumphs, ask a nagging grammar question, or just put a face to the name of fellow freelancers.
To add to the fun, this event will include a book swap! If you have a book (or books) you no longer want to keep, bring it to the get-together and help it find a new home with a colleague. Maybe someone else will have just the book you've been dying to read! Participation is encouraged but completely voluntary.
All EFA-Colorado members, guests, and friends are invited to participate in this free meeting, open to anyone interested in expanding their knowledge base and networking with colleagues. The event is free but registration is required so we know how many people to expect. Register HERE.
Please remember that all EFA events and chapter meetings are governed by the EFA's Anti-harassment and Privacy Policies.
We hope to see you on August 16!
Coming Up
Mark your calendar now for our next program meeting on “Finding Your Niche,” led by Jeanette Smith, Tuesday, September 30, at 1:00 pm.
Editing is a big business, and not every editor will be suited to or want to provide every service. But there’s a lot to choose from, so how do we narrow it down?In this presentation, we’ll explore how to find our NICHE within the editing world, with NICHE standing for our:
Natural talents—the things we’re good at and develop through practice
Interests—the topics, activities, and work we enjoy
Characteristics—the attributes and qualities that make up our personalities
Heart—the guiding principles that drive our decisions
Environment—the marketing sphere where we’ll display our niche
After defining the NICHE framework, we’ll discover how other editors have used this in their marketing to build their business with a list of dream clients and projects. By the end of the program, you’ll feel confident that you can find editorial work that fulfills you and keeps your business running.
Jeanette Smith is a copyeditor, content writer, and mermaid Instagrammer based in Fort Worth, TX. She aims to demystify the editing process through self-editing instruction and help authors end up with the best manuscript possible. Her fiction has appeared in Glassworks, Jelly Bucket, Second Chance Lit, and others. She has been an EFA member for several years and is very active in the community. Jeanette is always thrilled to help fellow editors upskill, believing that we all rise when we work together.
The meeting will be held via Zoom, and we encourage all informal networking. Register for this program HERE.
We're also planning some other exciting social meetings and programs for this fall. Keep watching for more information!
