September Meeting

Posted By Administration, Monday, September 15, 2025
On September 11, members of all the California chapters enjoyed a presentation about the tax laws of our state as they apply to freelance editors. Topics included worker classification, the ABC test, and exceptions for editors. Our speaker was Marie-France Li, a payroll tax specialist with the Employment Development Department, Tax Branch, Field Audit and Compliance Division.

EFA LA chapter blog inaugural post

Posted By Administration, Friday, April 11, 2025
Hello, EFA LA members! This is the first post of the new EFA LA chapter blog. Just some quick news: SAVE THE DATE June 5 @ 2:00 Amy Schneider will be speaking on Conscious Language and Copyediting Fiction. REMINDER: Get your profiles updated and squared away--they've been ported over to the new site, but please note that special characters (including apostrophes and some spaces) did not carry over into the plain text format. ON ANOTHER NOTE The wonderful Black Lawrence Press is launching a new journal of interest to story editors. Here's their blurb: "How does a draft become 'done'? At what point does a writer decide a piece is finished? What is cut, developed, rearranged, re-imagined, or borrowed from other projects along the way? Fair Copy is a journal of prose process, showcasing the possibilities of evolution and revision. Twice a year (Spring and Fall), Fair Copy [will publish] a print issue with a limited number of prose pieces, each comprised of a draft; the final, fair copy; and a mini craft essay from the author about their writing and revision process. Additionally, each issue includes writing exercises inspired by that issue’s content."
