  The Boring Stuff:
My name’s Cody and I’m a freelance copyeditor who is dedicated to the craft of creative collaboration. I edit fiction with an emphasis on romance, commercial, contemporary, literary, mystery/thriller, and horror genres. And anything LGBTQ+. I have always loved the art of telling stories through words, and I have always been exceedingly detail oriented and Type A, so naturally the only logical thing for me to do was create a career out of nerding out over the things editors love to nerd out over: grammar, syntax, punctuation, fact-checking, style, etc.

What Makes Me Different From Other Editors:
I devote as much attention to the customer service side of editorial collaboration as I do the act of editing a manuscript. What that means is I care about your experience working with me—a lot. My goal is to put your mind at ease and answer all your questions (before you even ask them). That way you can sit back and relax as I work on polishing your work of art into a masterpiece.

The Fun Stuff:
You finished your manuscript—hooray! Now scooch over and make room for the editor because it’s time to triple check you didn’t accidentally accuse your sailor of embarking across the Atlantic on a chip; or describe someone as having the moist annoying voice; or—God forbid—someone accidentally fetched a can of condensed milk from the old woman’s pantry, sans the R.

Typos in published work is all fun and games until they’re in your own. Of course, as your editor, I do more than just check for errant typos. There’s punctuation, grammar, syntax, not to mention fact-checking the manuscript against itself (especially in a series) so no one magically changes eye colors, or the murder weapon doesn’t change form, or dead characters don’t make sudden cameos (unless they’re ghosts). There’s also flagging trademarked words, adhering to industry-standard style guides, and creating multiple style guides for you—essentially, there’s a lot that goes into concealing the monster’s zipper, lest your reader stumble across an eyesore on the page and lose interest in finding out what happens next.

I’m as eager as a beaver to help polish your manuscript the Chip Skylark way. In other words, sparkling. So, reach out and let’s get this party started. This is what I love doing, so it would be my honor to help you.
