Due to the ongoing federal shutdown, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will run out of funding on November 1, 2025. The EFA recognizes that freelancers are among those who might be at risk of losing their federal food assistance benefits if the government does not reopen. We have put together a list of resources you can consult in anticipation of a SNAP shortfall.

Resources to Fight Hunger

In this uncertain economy, many people are facing financial difficulties and hunger. If you or someone you know is in need of help, here are some resources:

FeedingAmerica (feedingamerica.org)

WhyHunger (whyhunger.org)

211 (211.org)

These organizations provide information on finding food banks, food pantries, and meal programs.

If you want to help, monetary donations are welcome at national, state, and local levels. You can help your local community with food donations as well. Look to the websites above or check with your city or county government for a list of food resource programs. Churches, schools and youth organizations, and local businesses often sponsor food drives and meal programs as well.

Resources for Eating Disorders

The National Alliance for Eating Disorders reports that individuals in the US who are experiencing food insecurity are twice as likely to struggle with disordered eating behaviors, including bingeing, restriction, and body image concerns.

For more information, visit NAED's website (allianceforeatingdisorders.com). Call their free helpline, 866-662-1235, or text ALLIANCE to 741741.
